Family Day

Join us for our free monthly event for families, kids, and the young at heart. On the second Sunday of every month, the museum is filled with hands-on art activities, storytelling, artist demonstrations, gallery hunts, self-guided tours and more — all inspired by Mia’s incredible collection.

Upcoming Family Day Themes

September 8: Familismo

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with familismo—family time—at Mia! Get inspired by Latin art on display in Mia’s galleries.  Step into the world of Peru with muralist Melodee Strong, and make a colorful work of art you can wear. Then, make your very own family recipe box with artist Savannah Bustillo. Learn how artworks can tell stories, and see how other families spend time together on a gallery hunt of Mia’s collection.

October 13: Electric Adventure

Step into the world of artists, performers, and dazzling lights as you take in Mia’s newest exhibition, “At the Moulin Rouge,” on view October 12, 2024-March 9, 2025. Make a heart-and-chain paper necklace—like the fancy jewelry in Lautrec’s paintings—with Mia teaching artist Akiko Ostlund. Dance your heart out, then enjoy a performance by members of Young Dance. Immerse yourself in activities from the Children’s Theatre Company. Find circus animals and performers of all kinds on a gallery hunt of Mia’s collection.
