Age does not hinder artistic expression. This exhibition features art made by participants in two Vitality Arts workshops for older adults 55 and better, that took place this summer. Working with two well-known local street artists, Luis Fitch and Cadex Herrera, the students explored the exciting world of street art, graffiti, and mural making.

Vitality Arts: Abstract Painting with Ilene Krug Mojsilov

Do you love cars? Do you wish you could draw them? This five-week drawing class will focus on the fundamentals needed for drawing cars: proportion, symmetry, and contour. We’ll work from photos, our imaginations, and observation (Mia’s own Tatra T87 and some special guest cars). Whether you want to design your own fantasy vehicle or just make a recognizable sketch of your own favorite ride, this class is for you!

<h2>Abstract Painting: Full Color</h2>
Explore abstraction in a Vitality Arts workshop series led by teaching artist and museum educator Ilene Krug Mojsilov.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced painter, join us and free yourself from subject matter! Experiment with color, texture, line, and shape to create paintings that reflect your personal style. You’ll learn about early abstract artists such as Wassily Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian and contemporary artists Frank Stella, Grace Hartigan, and Yayoi Kusama, among others. Then, we’ll tour the museum’s galleries and get inspired by abstract painting and sculpture in Mia’s collection.
Come with a willingness to play with paint!

<h2>Drawing Fundamentals</h2>
Join us for the first of an exciting new Vitality Arts drawing workshop series led by artist and educator Michael Gaughan!
Designed for the beginner artist, this fun five-week class covers the skills you’ll need to start your own drawing practice. Join other eager artists as we explore Mia’s vast collection, using the wide range of artworks as reference for drawing from observation. Each week we’ll focus on a different essential drawing skill: composition, measuring and proportion, perspective, line and mark making, and value and shading. No prior experience necessary.

<h2>Intro to Mural Painting</h2>
In this five-week workshop, students of all levels and backgrounds will come together for a collaborative art-making experience.
Led by local artist and educator Cadex Herrera, participants will express their creativity by painting a 3 x 5 foot landscape acrylic painting on Polytab—each artist sharing a common horizon line. These individual contributions will then be integrated into a collective mural, connected by the horizon line, to form a single vibrant and cohesive landscape painting. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will depart with their completed landscape pieces.
Participants will learn acrylic painting fundamentals and explore landscape painting techniques and composition. Whether seasoned artists or novices, all are encouraged to join and contribute. Together, we will create a tapestry of diverse perspectives, blending vibrant hues to produce a mesmerizing visual symphony.
The collective mural will serve as a symbol of unity and shared creativity. It will stand as a testament to the beauty that emerges when individuals unite, inspired by their differences and united in their passion for art. Join us as we unite, inspire, and create something truly remarkable—an enduring representation of our community&#8217;s creativity and collaboration. Together, let&#8217;s paint a brighter, more colorful world.
