Now in its sixth year, the conflict in Syria has left nearly 6 million Syrian children in need of humanitarian assistance. The Lahza 2 Project (Lahza means “moment” or “glimpse” in Arabic) has brought art into their lives. Over one year, 500 children, aged 7 to 12 years, documented their lives through photography. Displaced from Syria and living in Lebanon, the youth were taught photography skills and given disposable cameras to capture their new worlds, providing them with a form of catharsis through artistic expression. Implemented through a partnership between UNICEF and the non-governmental organization ZAKIRA, the Lahza 2 project has resulted in a traveling exhibition.

A selection of these images, curated by Laila Abdul-Hadi Jadallah, will be on view at Mia as part of the special event Global Movements: A Series of Programs on (Im)migration.
